How the job matching score works

1. Upload your resume

PDF or DOCX — the version you plan to send.

2. Paste the job description

From LinkedIn, Indeed or any careers page.

3. See your match

Your score, the required skills you're missing and which ones to add first.

What the match score compares

ATS software ranks applicants by how closely their resume matches the listing. The match score shows you that ranking from the inside.

Hard skills and tools

Required software, certifications and technical skills named in the listing.

Job title alignment

Whether your titles and summary use the same language as the role.

Experience and seniority

Years, scope and responsibilities compared with what the employer asks for.

Priority gaps

Missing terms ranked by how much they are likely to cost you.

When to check your resume against a job

Before every application

A two-minute check shows whether your CV speaks the language of this specific listing.

When you're not getting callbacks

Low match on the skills employers filter for is one of the most common reasons strong candidates are screened out.

When switching industries

See which of your skills already transfer and which terms you need to add or reframe.

Example: what a match report shows

For a project coordinator listing, a typical report highlights keywords that appear in the job but not in the CV.

Missing from the CV

“Risk register”, “stakeholder reporting”, “Jira”, “budget tracking” — all mentioned in the listing, none in the resume, even though the candidate had done this work.

After adding evidence

“Maintained the project risk register and weekly stakeholder reports in Jira for a €400k budget, flagging overruns two weeks earlier than before.”

Illustrative example. Only add skills you actually have.

What is a job match score?

A job match score estimates how closely your resume lines up with one job description. It looks at hard skills, tools, job title, seniority signals and the responsibilities the employer emphasises. It is not a prediction of whether you will get the job — it tells you how easily a recruiter or an applicant tracking system can see that you fit.

Scores are most useful as a comparison: check the same CV against two or three roles and you quickly see which applications are worth tailoring and which are a stretch.

How to improve your match score honestly

Start with the skills you have but described differently. If the listing says “client onboarding” and your CV says “helped new customers get started”, use their phrase. Next, move the most relevant experience higher up. Finally, add proof: numbers, tools and outcomes make a keyword believable to the human reader who comes after the software.

Avoid pasting the job description into your resume or adding skills you don't have — recruiters check, and interviews expose it.

Mistakes that lower your match

  1. 1. One CV for every job

A general CV matches everything a little and nothing well.

  2. 2. Skills hidden in paragraphs

List key tools and skills clearly so both people and software can find them.

  3. 3. Different job title wording

If your title was unusual, add the common industry equivalent in brackets.

Job matching score FAQ

What is a job matching score?

A 0–100 rating of how closely your resume matches one specific job description, based on skills, keywords, titles and experience.

What is a good match score?

Above 75 usually means you are a strong fit on paper. Between 50 and 75, adding a few missing keywords honestly often makes a big difference.

How is this different from the resume score?

The resume score rates your CV in general. The match score rates it against one job listing.

Should I add every missing keyword?

Only the ones that truly reflect your experience. Recruiters check, and honest alignment performs better.

Is it free?

You can try it free after signing up. The Application Kit and paid plans include more job checks.

Apply to jobs you can actually get

One match check tells you whether to apply as-is, tweak, or move on.
